Creating a Pocket Garden
A pocket garden is a simple, inexpensive and aesthetically appealing way to make a garden in a limited space in your home. Small rooms can often feel boring and confining. An outdoor plant rug creates a softer surface and anchors the garden area to the outdoors. Placing planting around a deck door or above a patio door helps define and restrict the space available.
One of the most popular indoor plants used in pocket gardens is the succulent. It’s great for small spaces as it does well on small planters. It will grow and reproduce beautifully in small spaces. In addition to being hardy, succulents require little attention and you don’t have to keep mowing it to keep the leaves down. You can easily grow them from seed and they do great with containers and hanging baskets. They don’t need soil and can be planted in pots. You can use these for planting other indoor plants as long as you have the right drainage.
Indoor plants are great for creating a focal point in your pocket garden. They add color and interest to your small space. When planting, try and get the plant to show some color. Foliage plants will always have a little bit of color but sometimes they will shade the entire plant. A good idea would be to plant a few different colors. You may also want to place one or two large flowers where you want them in the ground. Flowers will make a big impact and draw the eye away from the smaller plants.
Adding different plants in your pocket garden gives you many options. You could get a climbing vine or some hanging baskets that allow you to use hanging baskets to keep the plant out of the sunlight during the colder months. They will be cooler in the evenings and will not sunburn. A hanging plant that you can place on a table is perfect if you want to plant a vegetable in your area. This is especially helpful if you plan to grow fruits and vegetables like squash and tomatoes in your pocket garden.
Indoor plants are a great way to add color to your small area without adding much else. They do well with small spaces. They will grow quickly in small areas and will give your pocket garden an attractive look. You should plant them into the soil and then water them at a regular interval, so they won’t get overcrowded. If you are planning to use containers, you should use containers that are easy to clean.
Plant your small plants with care and you will have a beautiful garden that looks great for years to come. Make sure that they are watered regularly and that you fertilize them after every watering. Plant your pocket garden at the top of the soil.
